IOCC Parish Representatives – July 2008
“Just as the poor should give thanks to God and return rich love to those who assist them, so all the more should the wealthy give thanks, for through God’s providence they are able to perform acts of charity and so are saved both in this age and in the age to be. For without the poor they cannot save their souls or flee the temptations of wealth.” — St. Simeon the New Theologian

KOSOVO – Latest News
Since 1993, IOCC’s Kosovo programs have assisted isolated communities by encouraging greater interethnic cooperation. Nine years after the conflict in Kosovo ended, about 15,000 of the estimated 230,000 internally displaced persons living in Serbia and Montenegro have returned to Kosovo. The most isolated enclaves of Kosovo recently received school repairs and new computers and books from IOCC. Thanks to the John G. Rangos Sr. Family Foundation, every dollar donated to the Kosovo fund up to $50,000 will be matched!

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
 | Nick Janulis, from St. George Orthodox Church in Clifton, New Jersey contacted IOCC last fall to become a Parish Representative because he feels that IOCC displays “an unselfish love that God expects of us.”
During lent, Nick decided to host a Lenten retreat at his parish to focus on the importance of helping others in need. Children and adults attended separate sessions to focus on themes related to their age groups.
Nick and other parishioners also gathered together to assemble over 100 health care kit and donated them to IOCC. Nick reminds us of the impact one person can have on an entire community. Thank you Nick for the countless hours you have dedicated to IOCC this year. |
YOUTH INVOLVEMENT
The elementary Sunday school class of St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Hunt Valley, MD put together school kits to be distributed to the less fortunate throughout the world. Every month, the elementary class has been reading about a different country helped by IOCC’s efforts in the IOCC prayer journal. When they learned about IOCC’s partnership with Church World Services and the school kit project, they were eager to bring in school supplies.
