IOCC Volunteer Update – June 2010
“If a man has one day provided for all the bodily needs of the poor, but, being able to do so on the next day, neglects some of his brethren and leaves them to die of hunger, thirst and cold – then he has neglected and left to die Him Who said: 'Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me'. ” — Matt. 25:40
June Bulletin Announcements
Jerusalem
Whether training women to create farming cooperatives or assisting families who were cut off from their farmlands by the West Bank Barrier to grow vegetable gardens, IOCC's assistance to the people of the Holy Land has emphasized self-sustaining initiatives that address poverty and promote economic independence. Today, IOCC is continuing this approach in the Holy Land with new programs that allow it to build on its humanitarian assistance, particularly to Gaza's families who still suffer the effects of the 2008 conflict. Greg Manzuk, IOCC's representative in Jerusalem says "We're very excited to have received $1 million in funding that will help improve the lives of thousands of Palestinian families living in poverty." |

JUNE VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT
Emily Howard
"I was 16 years old when the IOCC Race to Respond team came to visit us at the Antiochian Village for summer camp. We were all lined up down the field when they rode in. It was cool to see such inspirational people. This was the first time I had heard of IOCC."
Eight years later, Emily is the person inspiring people young and old to get involved with IOCC. Emily has served as an active member of the Boston Metropolitan Committee for two years and recently ran in the Boston Marathon for IOCC. Emily took it upon herself to raise over $2,000 for IOCC while teaching, helping her parish, serving on the IOCC committee and training for the marathon.
When asked why she volunteers for IOCC, Emily said "It is something that is near and dear to my heart. I love being part of the Boston Metropolitan Committee. We meet once a month and it is easy to be a Parish Representative because I am already involved in my parish community. As a volunteer, I don't have to go out of my way to do a lot of extra work for IOCC. Also, it is nice to know what IOCC does and how it works and the fact that it only uses 8% of its funds for capital purposes. The more you learn about the work IOCC does, the more you are more willing to help. I hope IOCC will always be a big part of my life."
Emily, thank you for your consistent dedication and support. We hear that you are already planning on training and raising money for the Boston Marathon next year. Keep up the GREAT work! |

Daily Prayer for IOCC Volunteers
O Heavenly King, Comforter, who grants all blessings, we thank You for Your abundant grace and mercies. Help us to be good stewards of Your treasury through the ministry of IOCC.
Help us to strip ourselves of our earthly adornment, so that the poor may be sufficiently clothed and fed. And, by so loving our neighbor, adorn us with the everlasting pearls of virtue instead.
Where there is suffering, help us to bring Your mercy. Where there is despair, Your hope;
Where there is war, allow us to present You who are the Prince of Peace;
Where there is pain, You who are the Comforter; Where there is hatred, You who are Love;
Where there is death and destruction; You who are the Resurrection and Life.
Daily guide our work in IOCC, so that we may do all things, in every place and at all times, for Your glory. Amen.
