IOCC Volunteer Update – February 2010
“Some people who have everything say, 'There are no poor people today.' They don't think of others. They don't put themselves in other people's shoes, so as not to be disturbed and lose their peace of mind. Then how can they possibly find the poor and the hungry? But if you think of others, you will seek out the poor and find out what they need.” — Blessed Elder Paisios of the Holy Mountain

IOCC Responds to Haiti
IOCC has been working with its ecumenical partners to deliver critical supplies to Haiti after the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010. Water purification and sanitation equipment was provided by IOCC in partnership with fellow ACT Alliance (Action by Churches Together) member Norwegian Church AID (NCA). IOCC continues to coordinate its response with the international ecumenical alliance to provide urgent humanitarian aid such as food, hygiene supplies, and shelter.

FEBRUARY VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT
The Lockyer Family

This month, IOCC features Mark, Benjamin, Jordan and Rachel Lockyer of Charlotte, NC in the volunteer highlight. With the current state of the economy, the Lockyer family found themselves in a similar situation as many families in the United States facing financial difficulties. However, the Lockyer children took this opportunity as a learning experience, realizing that many people around the world faced even greater hardships. The article linked below, written by Mark and Lynne Lockyer, is a great Lenten reminder of the importance of helping those in need, and becoming more like children.

Daily Prayer for IOCC Volunteers
O Heavenly King, Comforter, who grants all blessings, we thank You for Your abundant grace and mercies. Help us to be good stewards of Your treasury through the ministry of IOCC.
Help us to strip ourselves of our earthly adornment, so that the poor may be sufficiently clothed and fed. And, by so loving our neighbor, adorn us with the everlasting pearls of virtue instead.
Where there is suffering, help us to bring Your mercy. Where there is despair, Your hope;
Where there is war, allow us to present You who are the Prince of Peace;
Where there is pain, You who are the Comforter; Where there is hatred, You who are Love;
Where there is death and destruction; You who are the Resurrection and Life.
Daily guide our work in IOCC, so that we may do all things, in every place and at all times, for Your glory. Amen.
