Lebanon — Wala, 13, used to attend a private school in Brummana, Lebanon, but her father's restaurant wages were cut and she and her two sisters had to attend the town's public school. Most poor and lower middle class families in Lebanon are forced to send their children to the nation's public schools, which are woefully underfunded by the central government and lack proper facilities. Fortunately for Wala, Brummana's public school is one of 13 in Lebanon that has received a science lab from IOCC. Labs are supplied with microscopes, magnifiers, thermometers, flasks, test tubes, water, electricity, and gas. "Today, I race with my classmates to reach the lab first," says Wala who dreams of becoming a doctor. The science laboratories are part of IOCC's $4.7 million, U.S. government-funded program to improve the learning environment of 213 public schools in Lebanon.

The Denver Metropolitan Committee
Annual IOCC Bike/Walk 2009

IOCC's Metropolitan Committees are groups of volunteers who play a vital role in supporting the humanitarian mission of IOCC through fundraising special events and awareness-building efforts. Currently, IOCC has Metropolitan Committees in major cities across the United States, including Denver, Colorado. Since 2002, the Denver IOCC Metropolitan Committee has held a bike/walk to support IOCC when they were one of the host cities for IOCC's Race to Respond, a coast-to-coast bike ride by 5 IOCC supporters celebrating IOCC's 10th Anniversary. In addition to recently holding their annual bike/walk in August, Denver also hosted, for the very first time, a dinner for IOCC in May. Over 150 people from throughout the Denver metro area gathered at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church with His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver, IOCC Executive Director Constantine Triantafilou, and special guest speaker Nenad Prelevic, Program Manager IOCC Serbia, for worship, fellowship, and food, and raised over $20,000 for the work of IOCC!

Daily Prayer for IOCC Volunteers
O Heavenly King, Comforter, who grants all blessings, we thank You for Your abundant grace and mercies. Help us to be good stewards of Your treasury through the ministry of IOCC.
Help us to strip ourselves of our earthly adornment, so that the poor may be sufficiently clothed and fed. And, by so loving our neighbor, adorn us with the everlasting pearls of virtue instead.
Where there is suffering, help us to bring Your mercy. Where there is despair, Your hope;
Where there is war, allow us to present You who are the Prince of Peace;
Where there is pain, You who are the Comforter; Where there is hatred, You who are Love;
Where there is death and destruction; You who are the Resurrection and Life.
Daily guide our work in IOCC, so that we may do all things, in every place and at all times, for Your glory. Amen.
