AUGUST VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT: Meet the IOCC Romania Office
June 27th marked ten years of IOCC activities in Romania. IOCC began its work in Romania in 2001 at the invitation of the Romanian Orthodox Patriarchate, our main partner institution and James Rosapepe, former U.S. ambassador to Romania. Since then, the team there has programmed $6.5 million of assistance through four large-scale projects and three smaller scale projects. From 2001-2008, IOCC programs benefitted 2,188 representatives of Romanian Orthodox Church, 246,900 children and young people, and 147 vulnerable families.
Since 2009, IOCC Romania has been implementing two large-scale institutional capacity building projects of $3.5 million, co-financed by the European Social Fund through the Operational Sector Program for Human Resources Development 2007-2013. The goal of these projects is to reach at least 500 representatives of Romanian Orthodox Church and over 15,000 final beneficiaries. The main partners and beneficiaries of these projects are the Romanian Patriarchate and its national network of Christian NGOs, the Philanthropy Federation.
The office is currently led by Corina Mararu, the IOCC Romania Country Representative. Her team consists of professionals skilled in fields of program and financial management, training and consulting, project and community development, and legal advising.
