St Basil the Great Greek Orthodox Church
August 28, 2010
On August 28, 2010, clergy and parishioners from Orthodox churches throughout the Greater Houston area gathered at St. Basil the Great Greek Orthodox Church. The evening began with a pan-Orthodox Great Vespers Service followed by a reception and dinner. Daniel Christopulos, IOCC Director of Development, delivered a powerful message on the work performed by IOCC around the world and our calling as Orthodox Christians to participate in the alleviation of poverty and suffering, and to provide hope and opportunity to those in need. Additionally, IOCC Outreach Coordinator, Vasi Jankovich, shared a slide presentation and recounted her personal experience serving in the Republic of Georgia. The entire crowd was inspired by the presentations and by the work IOCC does at home and abroad.
Recognizing our blessings, it was truly an honor for St. Basil's to host this event and an excellent opportunity for many to give something back to God. With the help of some very dedicated ladies that planned the event and prepared the food, the Philoptochos Society and Daughters of Penelope, and some very generous donors, the event raised more than $25,000 for IOCC.
