Carnival! Costumes, Cocktails, & Charity!
Adams Morgan, Washington, DC
February 25, 2011
Several days before the start of Holy Lent, the DC Metropolitan Committee welcomed the Pan-Orthodox community to a Mardi Gras event celebrating the worldwide custom. Approximately 200 attendees joined in the festivities, many jeweled with Mardi Gras beads and wearing elaborate masks. Those dressed to impress won prizes, such as gift certificates to local restaurants. Attendees also enjoyed beautiful belly dance performances by Saffron Dance belly dancers. By the end of the night, the committee had raised more than $6,000 with cash and in-kind donations.
