5K Run/Walk

The Chicago Metropolitan Committee had its first ever 5k Walk/Run on Saturday, September 22, 2007. The walk/run started at St. Andrew Orthodox Church and continued along Chicago's beautiful lakefront. The day opened with breakfast and a welcome by BJ Vranas, Metropolitan Committee Chair, and Eleni Lanzourakis, Event Chair, followed by an update on IOCC's work in Greece, by Nick Chakos, IOCC Development Officer. After an opening prayer, the 70 plus participants started the 5k with much enthusiasm. The event raised almost $5,000 for IOCC's work, including its assistance in Greece for the fires. The Chicago Committee is already working on plans for next year's 5k event.
